Integration of information technology in agricultural extension to enhance innovation and farmers' income in agribusiness

Abstract

Information technology has increasingly transformed agricultural extension by expanding farmers’ access to timely knowledge, innovation, and market information. This study aims to examine the integration of information technology in agricultural extension and its contribution to agricultural innovation and farmers’ income in agribusiness. This study employs a library research approach using relevant primary and secondary literature obtained from books, peer-reviewed journals, scientific articles, research reports, and other academic sources. Data were collected through literature review and analyzed using content analysis to identify patterns, relationships, and significant findings related to information technology, agricultural extension, innovation adoption, and farmers’ income. The findings indicate that digital technologies can improve information accessibility, strengthen technology acceptance, facilitate innovation adoption, and support better production and marketing decisions. The study concludes that information technology can strengthen agricultural extension and contribute to improved farmers’ economic outcomes when supported by digital literacy, adequate infrastructure, relevant information, and institutional support.
